Sydney Dargent (she/her)
Sydney is a Vancouver Film School graduate looking to combine her artistic talents with her love for music. Influenced by her parents tastes, heavy metal and rock take up a lot of playlist space. Add in a healthy dose of pop-punk and a dash of indie and you’ve got Sydney’s playlist recipe. She is super excited to be bringing small local bands into the spotlight.
Fun fact: I listen to so much Johnny Cash that country is one of my top genres on Spotify despite not listening to any other country artists.
Petra Chase (she/her)
Petra is a writer, poet, birdwatcher, playlist curator, and nature lover studying communications at SFU. She loves that music is both universal, bringing people together, while also personal, rallying unique memory associations and interpretations. Writing about music has led her to more immersive listening experiences, bringing her joy and inspiration. She loves a variety of genres but lately has been enjoying folk, indie rock, and punk while biking around the seawall.
Fun fact: My favourite word is frivolous because I like the way it sounds, which is a frivolous reason.
Madeleine Chan (she/they)
Madeleine is a writer and music-lover who has recently graduated from Simon Fraser University. They enjoy a good song of (almost) any genre and any album with a reprise is an instant favourite. Fun fact: First concert was Hilary Duff.
Zach Siddiqui (he/him)
Zach is a writer who believes you can do anything if you have enough emdashes. An alumnus of SFU’s School of Communication, he admires music for how it tells stories that you can hear, live, and feel. You’ll probably find him exiting a SkyTrain station near you with a fresh coffee in hand — venti iced caramel macchiato, three extra vanillas, light on the ice.
Fun fact: I once outran a bus from Burnaby Mountain’s lower bus loop to the upper one.
Justin Smith (he/him)
Justin is a writer, musician, and (potentially) aspiring politician. After completing a Political Science degree at SFU, he’s looking to get back in touch with the Vancouver music scene, in addition to sharing his love of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal and odd avenues of creativity with the readers of Attuned. When he’s not reviewing music, you can find him in his bedroom writing 12 minute songs.
Fun fact: I formed a joke pop-punk band to poke fun at pop-punk, and then fell in love with pop-punk music as a result of said experience.
